Articles: a/an and the

Untuk mengatakan ‘seekor, seorang, sebuah’, gunakanlah ‘a/an’.

a.    =   diletakkan didepan kata benda yang bunyi awalanya konsonan atau huruf mati (selain a, i, u, e, o).

                                    a computer                      a book                       a university

                                    a newspaper                    a ruler                       a teacher

                                    a dictionary                     a table                       a student

an   =  diletakkan didepan ata (benda) yang awalnya berbunyi huruf hidup atau vocal, yaitu a, i, u, e, o.

                                    an apple                           an office                   an honest man

                                    an orange                         an uncle                    an hour

                                    an umbrella                      an island                   an erase

the = diletakkan didepan kata benda tertentu (yang dikhususkan)

Example:   I have a picture                       The picture is very good

                   I see pen now                         The pen is beautiful

                   I buy an umbrella                   The umbrella is yellow

the = diletakkan didepan kata benda tetentu (yang dikhususkan)

Example:   We also study the history of America

                   Father likes the music of Mozart

                   The Philosophy of Aristotle is also interesting

                   The boy sitting under the tree is my classmate

                   The sun rises in the east and sets in the west

                   The world is round

                   The Siak river is the deepest river in Indonesia

Note: the dibaca/    /sebelum kata yang berawal dengan bunyi huruf hidup (vocal).
